A symphony of flavors Spanish Manchego cheese harmonizes the distinct taste of fruits and nuts with zesty, almost piquant undertones that tantalize the taste buds and keep us reaching for seconds!
Cultivated on the wild pastures of Spain’s heartland, Manchego is a semi-hard cheese that is characterized by its sweet and nutty flavor and distinguished herringbone-patterned rind. The continued use of traditional, time-tested methods, right down to the grass molds that are responsible for its distinctive zig-zag pattern, has confirmed Manchego’s enduring legacy as one of the best cheeses produced in the Mediterranean.
True Manchego cheese is created exclusively in the La Mancha region of central Spain. Whether pasteurized or unpasteurized, it must be made from the milk of the Manchega sheep. All cheeses that do not meet these specifications are instead labeled Manchego “style” cheeses. At Gourmet Food Store, we are always careful to only provide you with traditionally certified DOP Manchego, so you’re certain you’re getting the finest in terms of quality.
Manchego cheese is available in many varieties, depending on its age. As with any cheese, the older a Manchego gets, the heartier and more flavorful it becomes, developing a more complex profile and a firmer consistency. From Fresco to Viejo, this wonderfully nuanced cheese ranges in texture and flavor from the soft and mild to the crumbly and intense.
Our six-month-old offering is an excellent blend of toasty, nutty flavors, and sweet almost buttery undertones. Beneath its inedible rind, this creamy cheese boasts a lovely lacey pattern, punctuated by tiny crunchy bursts of salt as the cheese crystallizes with age. The ideal cheese to give a tapas or antipasto platter more dimension, pair Spanish Manchego with a blanc de noir champagne for a simple yet ideal repast.
