Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake RecipeIngredients for the caramel base1 and ½ cups of white sugar2 tbsp unsalted butterIngredients for the cake2 apples, cored and peeled1 cup soft cream cheese½ cup milk2 eggs1 tsp vanilla extract1 cup sugar2 cups all-purpose flour3 tsp baking powder1 tsp baking soda1 tsp cinnamon powder¾ cup walnuts or pecan nuts for garnishIngredients for the sauce1 cup heavy cream or whipping cream¼ cup maple syrup2 tbsp butter½ cup brown sugar1 cup apple cider¼ tsp salt½ tsp cinnamon¼ tsp allspiceDirections for cakePreheat the oven at 350 F°.Cut the apples in fine wedges and arrange over the caramel in the cake mold.Put the cream cheese, the milk, the eggs, the vanilla extract, and the sugar in a big bowl and whisk with an electric hand mixer.Sift in the flour with the baking powder and the baking soda and the cinnamon, mixing to combine all the ingredients.Pour the batter over the apples in the cake mold and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean.Let it stand 2 minutes outside the oven and unmold on a plate.Directions for sauceCombine all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over high heat until the sugar is dissolved, then reduce the heat to medium and cook 10 minutes until it reduces a little.
