About Our Parmesan Cheese
Shelf Life: How Long Does Parmesan Cheese Last?
Perfect for adding some savory flavor to fruit trays and charcuterie boards, it’s always nice to have a few kinds of cheese stocked in your refrigerator at all times for last-minute parties and unexpected visitors. Unfortunately, some don’t last very long; Parmesan cheese, however, is not one of them. Categorized within the family of “hard cheeses,” an unopened wedge of fresh Parmesan can last up to four months in the refrigerator. Even once opened, you have about six weeks to use it up and we guarantee this savory salty cheese won’t last anywhere near that long!
Can you Freeze Parmesan Cheese?
Still worried about not using up your fresh Parmesan fast enough? This cheese (unlike most dairy products) freezes rather well and can last for up to 18 months frozen. While most dairy goods don’t do well in the freezer, its natural lack of moisture (thanks to its long aging period) makes it one of the more ideal dairy-based candidates. The texture of your cheese may change slightly once thawed, making it slightly more crumbly, but if your dinner plans included grated Parmesan cheese, you’ll be just fine.
