About Our Brunch Recipes
So how did this American institution start? What is brunch, and where did it come from? While there’s no simple answer to these questions, there are several hypotheses among historians. While the exact origins of the meal remain a little murky it’s been narrowed down to two possibilities: hunting and church-going. Some say the practice of brunch started with the large and lavish meals hunters would have before going out. The menus contained many of the same dishes we enjoy at brunch today, like eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and sweets. Others posit that the meal came out of the Catholic tradition of fasting prior to mass only to indulge in a large, post-church feast once home. Whichever it was, author Guy Beringer probably said it best when he first coined the term ‘brunch’ in 1895: ″Brunch is cheerful, sociable, and inciting. It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.″
